Frequently Asked Questions

New to farm funding programs? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

Do I need to use an agrologist?

Not always — but it helps. Some programs require your application to be reviewed by a Professional Agrologist regardless. If an agrologist is involved in your project design from the start, they can formally advocate for your application which can improve your chances of approval. Our team includes qualified agrologists who are happy to help.

Can I apply to more than one program?

Yes — you can spread funding across multiple programs and projects. Just keep in mind that the OFCAF has a cumulative cap of $100,000 per applicant regardless of how many programs or distributors are involved.

How does reimbursement work?

You pay all approved project costs upfront first. Once you've submitted sufficient proof of payment, reimbursement is initiated. The percentage covered depends on the specific program — check each program's page for details.

Is the funding considered taxable income?

Yes. OFCAF funding is considered a "farm support payment" by the Canada Revenue Agency. Amounts received are treated as farm business income and subject to applicable income tax rules. We recommend speaking with your accountant for guidance specific to your situation.

I'm not sure which program is right for me — where do I start?

Start by checking the eligibility requirements on each program's page. If you're still not sure, get in touch with our team — we're familiar with these programs and happy to point you in the right direction.
